Affected by Drug Abuse?

Usually, people tend to only discuss those who actively participate in drugs, but what about those people who come into some sort of contact with drugs every day, without even using them? They do exist too, and they might be worried if someone close to them is harming themselves. You might be one of those people. Your brother, sister, or friend could be taking drugs, and you might be confused on how to act. This article should hopefully guide you and give you some tips on how to help your loved one.

People sometimes take drugs as a way to escape from reality. If this is the case, then the best thing to do is ask them if everything is ok, as something might bothering them deep down. Ultimately, they might just need someone to talk to or just give them company. Reiterate the fact that you’re there for them.

Sometimes young people are pressured by the people they hang out with to take drugs. They might just want to fit in, and you need to tell them that their life is precious and it’s not worth destroying so that they can have friends. Be sure to remind them that they already have a friend, you, and you’re always there if they need to talk.

Other times, people who take drugs are experimenting and don’t know the full repercussions of it. They might say they won’t do it again, but they could end up becoming more and more dependent on the drug. Talk to them and ask whether they know all the risks.

There are, of course, more reasons why your loved one would take drugs. The most important thing to do though is to talk to your loved one and signpost them to those who can help such as guidance counsellors, teachers and medical professionals.
