The newly elected Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has today announced half-price bus fares for 16-18 year olds.
Half-price travel will be available this September in an effort to encourage more young people to access and recognise the opportunities that are on offer in Greater Manchester.
Mayor Andy Burnham announced the news on his Twitter:

During the mayoral elections, Burnham promised to introduce free bus passes for young people and was the centrepiece of his campaign. He said the reduced cost for 16-18 year olds was “the first step towards the commitment that I made, in the election, of a free bus pass for all 16-18 year olds.”
“I want to give every young person hope that they can have a good future at the end of school and this is what this is all about.”
To benefit from the half-price travel, you can apply for a 16-18 smartcard via Transport for Greater Manchester here.
