Is Trump a racist?
A question that has been asked ever since Donald Trump announced he was running for the presidency. Even before Trump started his campaign which angered many different groups of people such as continuously telling his supporters he will build a wall on the Mexico-America border and many other incidents that i will mention in this article.
Recent protest in Charlottesville
As most of have probably heard the protest between far right protesters that included the infamous Klu Klux Klan, Neo-Nazis and many white supremacist and other protesters ended in disaster when Heather Heyer was killed in cold blood when a white supremacist drove a car into a crowd of counter-protesters. This horrible incident led to a wave of disgust from both political parties in America. Donald Trump then released a statement condemning hate and racism but then reversed this act of good will by condemning both sides for the violence and death of an innocent women. These comments ensured that Donald Trump once again received criticism from many people and once again brought up the question, is Donald Trump a racist? His failure to condemn what members of his own party call “Domestic Terrorism” has led to calls for Donald Trump to resign.
Donald Trump’s campaign
During the election and the months leading up to the big day Donald Trump constantly pushed his hate and fury against minority groups in many different ways including pushing for a wall to be built on the Mexico-USA border, calling Mexicans rapist and going to war with the parents of a muslim solider killed whilst fighting for his country. All of these incidents have led to an increase in racially motivated attacks against minority groups. This has led to him receiving a huge amount of criticism from many influential people in America. Another incident that Donald Trump brought back to life was when he took out a full page ad calling for the death of 5 coloured kids who were accused of raping a jogger in Central Park even though they were proven innocent. And to top it all of Donald Trump stood by his actions.
Since Donald Trump was sworn as the President of USA there has been an obvious rise in the number of far right supporters attending protests against minority groups and a large increase in the number of hate crime reported. This is coupled with the growing number of young black men that have been shot and killed by police officers and then proven to be no threat to anybody. All of these incidents have led to calls for Donald Trump to resign and has most definitely dropped his approval ratings, despite this Donald Trump still stands by his actions whilst the rest of the world condemns him. What will it take to make Donald Trump see that he is encouraging racism even if it isn’t direct and obvious.
